When you know that, the shoulder, chest and back muscles generate about 85% of the swimmers power, you don't wonder why those parts of their body are so developed. But what about the bulge ? It does not generate any power (to swim), so why is it so developed ?
Science has developed special swimming suits with several different principles, reduces drag. Some of the attributes of those suits include ridges to reduce turbulence and flow the water around the body, tight fitting that give proprioceptive feedback to help keep body form in the water !
