OHLALA EXCLUSIVE LOOK AT SEAN PENN AS HARVEY MILK BY BIRON // SAN FRANCISCO
Sean Penn is actually filming the movie MILK in San Francisco. Harvey Milk was an American Politician and Gay Activist, he was the first openly gay city supervisor of San Francisco. He was assassinated in 1978, along with Mayor George Moscone. The murderer, Dan White was a "troubled anti-gay conservative" sentenced to seven years. Outrage over what many considered a mild verdict led to the White Night Riots in San Francisco.
Photographer Biron offers to OhLaLa the very first look at Sean Penn as Harvey Milk on Castro Street. He took those photos yesterday afternoon (Jan. 28th) during the actual filming across the street and in front of the location of Harvey Milk's original camera store.
The movie Milk is directed by Gus Van Sant, will also feature the sexy James Franco (as the gay lover). Apparently James and Sean wanted to live together for a time before filming began in the Bay Area ;-)
A block away from the shooting yesterday, the set people were also busy finishing the repainting the facade of the historic CASTRO Theatre in the bright colors -- reds and yellows as it was in the early 70s and building a barrier to hide the entrance the MUNI Metro which did not exist at that time.

Oh, these are so great!! I love how he transforms himself. Can't wait.

Sean Penn and James Franco are both very decent actors; each with their own separate showcase of talent. I'm very excited about this film (ok, get your mind out of the gutter :O), so I'm really looking forward to this film.
Milk did a lot to advance the agenda of the gay community; the sentence handed down to White clearly shows a double-standard in America (and even in S.F.) that permeates our society to this day. If Milk had been straight, and had Moscone not been a supporter of gay rights the sentence would likely have been much stronger.
If you get a chance, read the novel "The Mayor of Castro Street" by the late author Randy Shilts. It's a good read. :)
