LOS ANGELES TUESDAY OCT 23 4PM
After 3 days of inferno from Santa Barbara down to San Diego, at least 14 wildfires are still raging around us. Over 500,000 people have been evacuated. We are pretty safe here but still you can see this terrible cloud covering the Western part of Los Angeles. I took those photos from our place around 4 pm and what could be mistaken for a fantastic sunset over Beverly Hills is nothing else than the smoke from the wildfires in Malibu. Not much improvement from the photos we took yesterday.
Yes, million dollar homes gone! The Mercedes, Ferrari Testarozzas, the memories of pictures with Princess Di in 50K gold frames, a celebrity's Versace wardrobe and Hugo Boss suits in closets -- ALL charred up!
Amazing how human lives are always overlooked, but the spectacular vanity of homes and material things are so often reported on. Not just on entertainment shows, but also now on NBC and CNN. Of course, this blog is no different. Then again, typical shallow L.A. perspective.

I live in Los Angeles, too. It's been a terrible week for all people in the southland whether you have a million dollar home or rent an apartment on a graduate student's wages (as I do). People are losing everything they have - no matter how big or small the house. I'm sorry the first poster was so negative. Angelenos are humans, after all, and most of us live pretty normal lives.
Stay safe you two. And let's hope our firefighters and sheriffs keep up their extraordinary work. They too, like you, and me, are Angelenos or southern californians as well.
