Umm, why reveal it? Perhaps because thousands of young gay, lesbian and questioning kids try to kill themselves each year because they feel alone and never come across anyone with with feelings like theirs when they're reading. I think it's awesome that JK revealed that Dumbledore was gay. It won't really affect the books at all because, HELLO, they've already been written!
It's just a piece of information that she probably had in her head that helped her mould that character and help in the storyline with how he's never had a woman love or how close he was with his male wizard friend and was crushed that he was evil etc etc etc.
And don't be silly... they're not going to add sex scenes in Harry Potter! It's still aimed for a young audience so I'm pretty sure the only 'sex' they're going to show it boys and girls 'snogging' their brains out LIKE IT SAYS IN THE BOOK!

I agree that she really had no reason to out a character... um, out of the blue. However, note that she did so AFTER it would not affect the Harry Potter book sales. Interesting, to say the least.

She was probably planning to out the character all along, as surely she knows some gays personally and therefore wanted to pay some tribute to them by making a very esteemed character gay to cover all the spectrum of life.

I just think all this shit is funny because seriously, just say he's gay in an article and not in the middle of Carnegie Hall or whatever during a children's event where their possibly conservative parents will be.

I think the community in the US would have more of a problem with the Gay Wizard then the European one. Homosexuality is more accepted and viewed as nothing but another way people live. If anything the major religious and conservative U.S. groups will have a field day with this and try to remove the book out of children's sections all over the country. in terms of J.K. outing Albus I see no harm, and I certainly don't see that as hurting the way kids read or see the book. Kids know what Homosexuality is, and is more commonly seen, especially in places like Europe. Of course society in the U.S. is going to see this a big scandal, and something sick and disgusting. This is the U.S., this is what we are know for. Something as small as outing a Wizard in the children's novel in the U.S. is seen as morally wrong, unnatural, perverted. I applaud J.K. for doing so, it makes the story a little more interesting. In terms of "queens, and queers" applauding her Chris. Why not? It just goes show that she is an open minded person, and she doesn't have a problem with homosexuality. Also, how do you know she is not helping organizations to fight aids? Maybe she does maybe she doesn't, but that really is not any of your business what she does with her money. Besides all of that, her books of Harry Potter are really good, and people will continue to watch it and read it. Outing a character is not going to change that. So he is gay! Big deal! Also this is all business, she is smart. By outing a character in her book she going to pull in a bigger pool of gay readers all over the world. Guess what? Bigger books sales. Well I think, it didn't make sense that a super smart wizard would ever fall for the ideals that wizongor--something (can't remember his name) had. he loved muggles and half-bloods and the ideal was clearly going to affect halfbloods and such. hes too smart to have that blinded from him. unless if he loved the evil wizard, it would make sense that he couldn't see pass that and that he saw only perfection in his eyes untill he was forced to see otherwise due to his sister.

so just to be slightly technical i think, outing dumbodore does explain a few thinks and not just for sales. I believe that J.K.rowling has her whole world planned out exactly the way she wanted it. which is probabily why she wrote 19 years later cause most writers won't write an epilogue like that cause it would be up to the reader's imagination. This is prove as she also wrote the book with all the magical creatures in it and the continuity of the books are flawless. only cause everything was so carefully planned out.

anyways I've probabily been a nerd long enough so i'll end it here :D harry potter rules!
