Lovewar12090701

We all agree on the concept "Make Love Not War" ... this month issue of Vogue Italia has an impressive photoshoot by photographer Steven Meisel. Steven is a an American photographer, who obtained popular acclaim with his work in US and Italian Vogue and his photographs of friend Madonna in the latter's 1992 book Sex.

These photographs are intense. Meisel is an amazing photographer and art director!

I do like Meisel on occasion, but these photos just fall in the trend of glamourizing war. Are these images supposed to protest the war in Iraq, or trivialize it? Accompanying these images with a tagline like "Make love not war" feels banal and offensive to me, as is turning the tragic horrors of war into a sexual fantasy to hawk fashions.

These images are so ridiculous. Whatever point he thought he was making failed miserably.

A lot of u guys don't get it - look at the pics, it's not pro-war or anti-war, it simply girls going to entertain the soldiers and help them let loose. not many people are pro-war, but a lot still support the troops. There is a difference. Aside from all that, the images are stunning.

The images are inspired from scenes of Vietnam War movies, notably Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket. It's an interesting contrast, considering we know the majority of folks in the fashion industry would want nothing more than for the war to end and the troops to come home... this isn't so much glamorization, as subterfuge... these images are going to make the rounds of every soldier's lap top... if anything, these images will make them long for home. The women are the center of attention, not the war... so if what Lola wants, Lola gets... if the desire to please them grows stronger than the desire to fight... then we may one day have peace on earth... naive? Think again... We're there to keep the oil flowing so we can keep running our cities and industries... We should instead be developing solutions to oil, to share with the whole world... Naive? Think again! I love these pictures... they spur dialog... I'm in fact quite pleased that Meisel would do this, considering he's been MIA on the socio/political front his entire illustrious career... it's a departure for him, pictures with a message.

Steven Meisel dares to say in pictures what we can only dream. He is the voice of our time, poignant, sincere...
Viva Madonna !!
