SANTA MONICA // LIFEGUARDS ON DUTY

Today the french gang went to spend their afternoon at Sainte Monique ... it does sound better in english ;-) It was hot and we had an amazing time, of course, for obvious safety reasons we remained close to the Lifeguard tower N°22 ! Our first surprise of the day was the dolphins encounter ... just like in Rio de Janeiro back in March ... my first reaction was "F*** ... sharks !!! Get out of the water" but then we've realized that is was just a bunch of cute dolphins.

Our second surprise was the temperature of the water, I think in 10 years I went swimming like once or twice in the Pacific Ocean. It's not the cleanest water on earth but it was ok today, and warm enough to have some fun. As you can see below ... I did have some fun in the waves ... well actually the waves had some fun with me ;-)

So after a couple of hours we have finally decided to leave the Tower 22 and it's hunky lifeguards to rent bikes and roller-blades for a promenade along Santa Monica and Venice Beach.

After one hour ride we were exhausted but Alain, my cousin, did find some extra energy to exercise on the beach ... while Anne Gaelle and I took a last dive into the Ocean !

Et voila ... it was a really great weekend, and we are ready for another fun week under the Californian sun ;-)

You boys continue to inspire us with your zest for life and your upbeat attitude. Keep it up. And I like being reminded of the cold water and hot guys on those SoCal beaches. BTW, I think Santa Monica is Spanish; we should give them credit for the beautiful place names of California. Question: what is the last picture? Looks like a tunnel under Pacific Highway all glammed up like a nightclub waiting for Abel.

Santa Monica pier is great, but you can't judge the Pacific Ocean by Santa Monica Bay (which is often dangerously filthy for a list of reasons). Go north to Zuma or Point Dume AND go south to Huntington Beach and Laguna. These are better examples of most of the California coast.
