HELEM - LGBT LEBANESE COMMUNITY
Helem, (the Arabic acronym of "Lebanese Protection for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgenders"). Their main goal is the annulment of article 534 of the Lebanese Penal Code which punishes "unnatural sexual intercourse". This law is primarily used to target the LGBT community by violating the privacy of its members and by denying them basic human rights. They official site Helem, recently talked about Barra, the first quarterly Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersexed and Queer magazine in the Arab world. A guide to Gay Lebanon. You can support Helem, by visiting Raynbow. For more photos and an OhLaLa Interview with the Helem Boys click here

Oppression
I live in a country where homosexuality is still considered illegal. As we watch how other nations are struggling for the right to gay marriage and adoption, we stand helpless as we ask for our basic right to exist.
Homophobia
Frustrated by the surrounding homophobia, and in an attempt to swim against the tide, Lebanese LGBTs joined forces and are working hard to start a change. We want to say “Not Anymore” to talking about an imaginary girlfriend to please homophobic ears or pretending to look “Macho” to protect homophobic eyes. Although beautiful, Lebanon has a potential to become a better place. All it needs now is a fresh and colorful touch of RAYnBOWs.
Lebanon??!!!
A small-sized greatly-loved country on the east coast of the Mediterranean Sea. In Lebanon, just where you might least expect it, beats and thrives a throbbing gay-scene that would make your heart halt.
Awareness Acceptance Anti-homophobia
Is this a lot to ask for!! Well, we never dared to before. However, this has recently changed and Lebanon is witnessing remarkable activism regarding LGBTIQ rights. Now we have HELEM, a non-governmental organization to protect the rights of Lebanese LGBT, and Ray‘nBow, an awesome online store targeting the Gay & Lesbian community in Lebanon & the Arab world.
LAW & LGBT
Article 534 of the Lebanese Penal code criminalizes "unnatural sexual intercourse" which is interpreted as being anal sex and regarded as a behavior inherent to homosexuality. This clause stipulates the following: "Any sexual intercourse against nature is punished with up to one year of imprisonment.
Adiós
Special thanks to Oh La La Paris, my favorite gay e-hangout, for putting a spotlight on the Lebanese LGBT community.
